Jonathan Herder focuses on the raw material of dissected postage stamps, which stems from the artist’s “desire to liberate the stamp’s graphic potency from the mundane confines of bureaucratic purpose.” He sometimes includes other official currencies such as bank notes and stock certificates. He elevates the character of their common materials from opaque utility to delicate ethereality.
