The work of Sandra Vásquez de la Horra is deeply emotional and autobiographical. Enveloped in yellowed wax, her graphite works present themes of persecution, abandonment, religion, sex, language, and culture. Although the drawings are singular works, Vásquez de la Horra’s eclectic salon-style installations lead the viewer to link them and create a personal history. Each waxed drawing has a dreamlike quality which contrasts with the dark, and sometimes explicit, subject matter.
